National best-selling author Lyz Lenz will appear at 51ĀŅĀ× on Tuesday, March 26, for two events, both of which are free and open to all.

Lenz will deliver a talk entitled ā€œWriting in an Age of Despairā€ from 11:15 a.m.-12:45 p.m. in Lakeland’s Bradley Theatre. Later, she will do a reading as part of an open mic event from 5-6:15 p.m. in Room 209 in Lakeland’s Laun Center.

In her latest book, ā€œThis American Ex-Wife,ā€ which was an instant New York Times best-seller, Lenz makes an argument for the advantages of getting divorced, framing it as a practical and effective solution for women to take back the power they are owed.

Weaving reportage with sociological research and literature with popular culture along with personal stories of coming together and breaking up, Lenz creates a kaleidoscopic and poignant portrait of American marriage today.

She is the host of the She made a recent to discuss the book, her third.

Her book ā€œā€ was published in 2019, through Indiana University Press. Her second book, ā€œBelabored,ā€ was published in 2020 by Bold Type Books. Lyz’s essay ā€œAll the Angry Womenā€ was also included in the anthology ā€œā€ edited by Roxane Gay.

Lenz’s writing has appeared in The Washington Post, the Columbia Journalism Review, The New York Times and others. She received her MFA in creative writing from Lesley University. She lives in Iowa with her two kids and two dogs. She writes a regular newsletter, ā€œ,ā€ where she explores the intersection of politics and our bodies in red-state America.
