Lakeland microscope donations benefit local organizations

Thanks to a grant from the West Foundation to obtain higher quality microscopes for 51ĀŅĀ×’s teaching labs, the LU biology department recently helped two local organizations improve their microscopy capabilities.

Over the past year, Lakeland’s biology department has made a large donation of older (but functional) monocular scopes to the Howards Grove School District and a smaller donation to the John Michael Kohler Art’s Center in Sheboygan.

Twenty-two monocular microscopes were donated to Howards Grove schools in August of 2023 for use in their science courses. That donation was coordinated by LU adjunct instructor Hannah Harder-Chancellor, who worked with a local teacher in Howards Grove to coordinate the donation.

This October, Lakeland made a second donation of two binocular compound microscopes to the JMKAC to assist their efforts to incorporate microscopy in their art course offerings.
