Lakeland welcomes three Sheboygan County Scholars this fall

51ÂÒÂ× will welcome its 11th class of Sheboygan County Scholars to campus this fall.

This program retains some of the area's most promising young people and prepares them to assume future leadership positions within the region.

The Class of 2029 includes:

  • Isaac Falk, Plymouth High School
  • Kera Pikula, Sheboygan North High School
  • Hannah Steffen, Sheboygan Falls High School

Scholars are selected as part of a competitive process and receive a full-tuition scholarship to attend Lakeland. The program fosters the intellectual development, professional networking and leadership skills of the next generation of Sheboygan County's corporate, professional and civic leaders.

Falk plans to study business and marketing and continue with his successful soccer career. He aspires to a career in real estate and one day hopes to own a real estate firm in Sheboygan County. He plans to focus his time at Lakeland on organizations that will help develop his business skills.

He participated in FBLA at Plymouth and made it to state as a freshman and sophomore. He is a standout soccer player, playing goalie for Panther teams that finished as state runner-up and a two-time sectional finalist. A first team all-conference goalie as a junior, Falk also played club soccer and been a soccer instructor in youth camps. He has made regular appearances on Plymouth’s High Honor Rolls and is a member of the Art National Honor Society.

Pikula initially connected with Lakeland through its Summer Music Camp and she takes French horn lessons with LU Associate Professor of Music and Director of Bands Evan Chancellor. She was also attracted to Lakeland’s bachelor of fine arts in creative writing program. She plans to gain experience and expertise in creative and academic writing, as well as continue to develop musically.

She has served several leadership roles, including lead drum major for the North High band and as a section leader. She was also a student teacher with the band director at Urban Middle School

Service has also been a priority for Pikula, a member of the National Honor Society for two years who has accumulated over 100 hours of both school and community service. She has performed in the Sheboygan Pops Concert Band, as well as the Sheboygan Senior Community through Richard’s School of the Dance. She has also been a part of the pit orchestra for the yearly North and South High musical.

Steffen plans to major in education and aspires to be a teacher. Whether volunteering for local organizations or serving in her church, assisting others has played an integral role in her life. She hopes to help the next generation become kind, empathetic and compassionate people.

Steffen has spent much of her time in high school serving as a mentor to several students through a program called Connections, which acclimates incoming freshmen and new students to the high school. She hopes to serve in similar roles at Lakeland including the Blue and Gold Champions and campus ambassadors. She plans to continue volunteering through her church at the Sheboygan Falls Food Pantry and Shepherd’s Closet.

A fixture on the honor roll, Steffen is a member of the National Honor Society and serves as vice president. She has worked roles at Wisconsin Trader, the Sheboygan Falls Aquatic Center and Sheboygan Falls Memorial Library.
