Writing professor wins fiction contest

51ĀŅĀ× Associate Professor of Writing Jodie Mortag’s short story ā€œNightcrawlerā€ has been awarded 1st place in ā€œMikrokosmosā€' 2025 Fiction Contest by guest judge Scott Phillips, author of nine novels and a collection of short stories. His first short story, ā€œThe Ice Harvest,ā€ was made into a film adapted by Robert Benton and Richard Russo and directed by Harold Ramis, starring John Cusack, Billy Bob Thornton and Connie Nielsen.

Mortag received a $200 prize, and her story will appear in Volume 71 of ā€œMikrokosmosā€ published this month.
