UCC Members Audit Courses

Thanks to Lakeland’s historic affiliation with the United Church of Christ (UCC), we proudly offer UCC members the opportunity to audit one Religion (REL) or Social Justice (SJS) course per semester for just $100.

This special rate only applies to courses designed for traditional students taking in-person classes at our main campus in Plymouth, Wis. No credit is earned for an audited course.

Not a UCC member?
Individuals from other denominations are welcome to audit these courses for $200 per course.

Courses Available (Fall 2025)

The course introduces students to the profound and often challenging traditions of the Old Testament, unveiling their character as sacred testimony shaped to help ancient Israel remember its identity and resist assimilation. The course also equips students with the background and skills they need to explore the witness of the Old Testament traditions in both their ancient and contemporary contexts.

Examines and compares American religious groups, both old and new: Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, sectarian, and marginal. Considers recent evangelical, charismatic, and new age movements.

Study of the major living religions which trace their spiritual ancestry to Abraham. The course will explore the basic beliefs, practices, and values of these traditions, their historical development, their interaction with society and with each other.

This course reviews the development of Christianity with a focus on how this tradition has been both an agent of oppression and a force for justice, with a concentration on our contemporary context.

An introduction to key concepts, questions, and approaches in Social Justice Studies. Students explore systems of power and inequality through the lenses of identity, the common good, and lived experience. Topics include race, class, gender, ability, and the common good, with an emphasis on compassion, critical thinking, and community engagement.
